What is E.S.T.?

Grant’s Engineered Soil Technology (E.S.T.) Program is Natural Sand’s revolutionary three-step process for improving poor-performing infields without removing and replacing the existing infield skin.

Based soil science and test results—not guesswork—Grant’s E.S.T. Program assesses the current state of an infield, then prescribes specific corrective measures to transform a poor infield into one with the highest performance possible.

Testing

Classifying the type of field under assessment is key to Grant’s E.S.T. Program. Identifying the water and personnel resources of the facility will drive the choices made throughout the E.S.T. process.

After classifying the field, a soil sample from the infield is sent to Hummel and Co. laboratory. Natural Sand Co. receives a detailed report itemizing the levels of sand, silt and clay in the sample.

Analysis

Upon receipt of the soil report, Natural Sand Co. assesses the sand content and silt-clay ratio (SCR) of the current infield.

After reviewing the soil composition and field type (professional, college, recreational), Natural Sand Co. prescribes a customized solution that maximizes the playability of the infield.

Conversion

At the conclusion of the E.S.T. Program the infield will match the soil profiles of most quality infield mixes, including DuraEdge Infield Mix.

The Importance of SCR

The SCR is a score derived by dividing the percentage of silt by the percentage of clay in a soil sample.

The SCR score indicates the relative performance of an infield soil product. The optimum SCR score is 0.5 to 1.0.

The further an SCR score is from the optimum range, the greater the difficulty in successfully amending the soil. Generally, soils with SCR scores below 3.0 are more easily amended; SCR scores above 3.0 tend to be costly and climb closer to the price of a complete infield renovation.
